We fund research and raise awareness of MND to help anyone touched by MND.

Story

Doddie's story transcends the rugby world. He was an inspiration. The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation has ploughed over £8m into MND research in the last seven years.

Doddie Aid is a mass participation event founded by former Scotland captain and British & Irish Lion, Rob Wainwright. The event raised a staggering £1m in January 2024 and around 30,000 people took part.

Doddie Aid is a way for us all to help Doddie and the Foundation in their quest to find better treatments for MND.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is keen to support that quest and have gathered a team of (willing / nervous!) cyclists who are ready for the challenge. They will also have the help of a support team to see them through the miles and keep them going.

The team is made up of firefighters from various ranks and also includes volunteer on call firefighters from the East and West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute area.

They are:

Riders: Joe McKay / Darren Gibb / Barrie McCutcheon / Isla McCutcheon / Andrew McGregor / Roddie Shaw / William Wilson / John Miller

Support Team: David Moore / Brian Wardle / Gordon Curran / Ross Watson / David Boyd / Tony McGloin

They will be setting of on Tuesday 4th Feb 2025 to take part in the Doddie Aid Dublin to Edinburgh Cycle Ride fundraising for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation tackling MND.

The team will pick up the Core Cyclists are Stranraer and the route will take them through South Scotland, from the West Coast to the East and back again, through Ayrshire, Glasgow, Stirling and Perth then onto Aberdeen before heading back down the East Coast through Fife and finally arriving at BT Murrayfield some 4 Days later on Friday 8th February prior to the Scotland v Ireland 6 Nations match. The cycle will be a continuous ride throughout the 4 days with the cyclists riding throughout the nights, grabbing some precious hours of rest in various rugby clubs across the country who will kindly offer some shelter and well earned food and drink. I am sure this will provide much needed sanctuary during the challenge.

Thank you for your support.
