We support people with Spinal Cord Injury to help them live full, independent lives

Story

Hello everyone and a sincere thank you for taking the time to read the below…

I am excited (and nervous) to be participating in the Aspire Solent Swim on the 28th of July to raise funds for the incredible cause, Aspire. As someone who loves swimming and running I couldn't think of a better way to support this organisation that helps people with spinal cord injuries.

So to help raise more funds and complete a personal challenge that I have wanted to do, once I make the 2.5 - 3 mile swim (tide depending) from Stokes Bay, Gosport to Ryde Sands, Isle of Wight, I shall change clothing, re-fuel and begin the run around the island, following the infamous coastal path which circumnavigates the Isle of Wight, travelling 77 miles (3 marathons back to back) with a total elevation of 1650 metres.

People have swam the Solent and ran the IOW coastal path in isolation, as a single event, but there is no entry in the Guinness world records database of anybody doing the swim and run continuously in the same effort. My application to the Guiness world records was recently rejected due to the challenge “not being of significant international interest” (email screenshot attached). But this will not change my attempt and fund raise.

Training has already begun with certain events being completed in 2023, one being a 10k swim in 3 h 53 mins.

I am under no illusion that this will not represent many challenges, physically, mentally and logistically but I do believe this is something I can complete, which makes this adventure and challenge the perfect way (for me) to raise money for this remarkable charity.

Every year, Aspire provides vital support and resources to thousands of individuals and families affected by spinal cord injuries. Their work is truly life-changing, and I am honoured to be able to contribute in my own small way.

My goal is to raise £1,000 for this amazing cause. With your help, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. Honestly, every donation counts - no matter how small it may seem, it’s the accumulation of these donations which have an huge impact and will go directly towards supporting Aspire's vital work.

Join me in making a difference today by donating whatever you can, Together, we can help Aspire continue their incredible work and change lives for the better.

Thank you for reading 🙏🏻🫶🏻
