Story
At first thought I couldn't for the life of me believe that anyone would want to cycle 281.9miles in 4 days. And its pumping fear straight to my core that I've signed up to do just that starting Weds 18th September 2024.
How I'll fair remains to be seen, however I know that the only thing keeping me going through the inevitable tears, hints of a mental breakdown or two, and probable crutches at the end, will be the fact I'm raising money for St. Michael's Hospice in Hastings and all the people in our area they help.
The Hospice holds such a special place in the hearts of all people living near it. To me and my family, the Hospice is where my grandad Frank and my siblings' mother Pauline received the most loving and attentive end-of-life care, when they were taken from us too soon. The wonderful staff in both St. Michael's and St. Wilfrid's Hospices do absolutely everything in their power to ensure those in their care are free from pain, and surrounded by those who love them, and I want to raise money to thank them and help them to continue to provide vital services to our community day in, day out.
When I was young St. Michael’s is where my mum Gaynor worked for 6 years as a staff nurse, and had instant family when she began. And the Hospice where my Nanny Eileen volunteered at breakfast times for a number of years.
Over four days I, along with my partner Rose, her sister Grace, and father Laurence of The White Rock Hotel will be cycling an average of 70.5 miles a day through four different countries; starting at St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne, then to St Michael's Hospice in St Leonards. We will speed along the south coast, across the channel and then through the cities of Bruges and Rotterdam, finishing in Amsterdam.
We’re about to start a hell of a lot of training to try at least half prepared.
To make it harder, I've decided to run the Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday 24th March as well to support the Hospice and this fundraiser - having started running a couple of months ago.
Thank you for your all of your support however much it is; it all helps keep the Hospice going.
We want to host other fundraisers like quizzes and music nights this year as well to raise money towards the goal and hope to share details soon!!
