Story

AUGUST 2024 UPDATE. Dad and five friends will be cycling 1100km from Venice to Tirana as part of their efforts to ride from home to Istanbul, taking them to the edge of Europe. The first leg Home-Venice was completed since time ago (raising money for CRUK) and they plan to complete the final leg Tirana - Istanbul next year.

JULY 2024. Elise has recently received the all clear from her checkup 10 months after her operation and almost a year after radiotherapy. This is fantastic! She will have checkups every three months for another year and then less frequently for up to 10 years. We all continue to be so grateful for the treatment she received from the wonderful staff in the NHS Peninsula Sarcoma team and the support offered by Sarcoma UK.

JUNE 2024 UPDATE. Mum has recently cycled 125 miles around Lake Constance in temperatures exceeding 30°C and heavy rain. Fantastic effort Mum and wonderful sponsorship.and support from so may people.

UPDATE: Dannie has been given the all clear to walk the 26.2 miles the day before the London Marathon with best friend Anna Richardson :-) They will be walking the Clarendon Way from Salisbury (where Elise has been having rehab physio) to Winchester. There might even be a guest appearance from Elise!

UPDATE: unfortunately, during training, Dannie has been diagnosed with a heart rhythm issue so has been medically pulled out. However, fear not, the wonderful Rachel Alves has SO kindly agreed to step in and Dom is still running - so the 52 miles will be covered. Thank you Rachel :-)

UPDATE: Elise is in remission! And continues to make wonderful progress with her physio.

Our wonderful, brave sister Elise (22) has been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called myxoid liposarcoma.

Elise has just started an intensive stint of radiotherapy for the next five weeks and will then need major surgery on her leg followed by physio to re-train the muscles to walk.

Sarcoma is a very under funded type of cancer due to being rare so the Spencers are taking on a year of fundraising culminating in Dom and Dannie running the London marathon in April 2024 to raise much needed funds. The training should coincide with Elise's physio so we can all utter many swear words in the name of sarcoma and come out fighting the other side.

Elise is being treated in one of a number of specialist units in the UK in Cornwall and we are all incredibly grateful for the expertise available to her as part of the Sarcoma team.

Any and all donations, no matter how small, will be so gratefully received as Elise embarks on her treatment journey.

We will post back periodically with treatment, training and other fundraising updates xx
