Fundraising for Huntington's Disease Association
Welcome to my TCS London Marathon #TeamHDA fundraising page. This is easily the most idiotic thing I’ve done. But there’s nobody else I’d put myself through excruciating pain for than the HDA.
So a little about why I’m doing this… and it goes back to when I was was ten-years-old and had gone to bed as normal. I woke and walked to the top of the stairs. It was there I saw my Grandad who took me into a room and told me that "Dad didn’t come home last night".
Dad was struggling with Huntington's disease and decided to end his life. His sister, who also suffered from the condition, did the same thing just months later.
Huntington’s Disease (HD) is a condition that stops parts of the brain working properly over time and is usually fatal. There is no treatment for HD and no cure. The unstoppable death of brain cells in Huntington's leaves patients in permanent decline, affecting their movement, behaviour, memory and ability to think clearly.
I, myself, have a 50/50 risk of developing Huntington's disease.
Recently, scientific advancements have started to provide something we've never had. Hope. And that’s more than enough for me to run until my legs give out.
Additionally, the Huntington's Disease Association supports anyone who is affected by Huntington's disease across England and Wales. They pursue the best possible care; provide training & advice to families and professionals; raise awareness, and promote research towards better treatment and care.
So please do donate whatever you can. I know times are tough so even sharing this page makes a difference. Raising funds and spreading awareness is how make real significant to those who live with HD in their family.
As always, big love and thank you for reading.
