I never win anything.

But this year I was “lucky” enough to win a place on the Montane Winter Spine race 2024 - a 268 mile race taking on the Pennine Way against all the brutality that January has to throw at you. Sixteen hours of darkness a day, storm force winds and sub zero temperatures. I have 168 hours or 7 days to get from Edale to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.

I’ve dot watched the athletes or volunteered to look after them for years now and I love everything about the Spine race. Taking the challenge on myself though feels ridiculous. But, as my Mum has said, I'll never know what I can do until I have a go. so, here I go...

And what better motivation along the way than to fundraise some money for a charity - Mummy's Star - that I've admired for years, and know has helped people I love through incredibly difficult times.

I've set my target at £268 for each mile along the Pennine Way. I know times continue to be so tough for people financially, so if you're able to donate then a HUGE thank you in advance. Mummy's Star is the only charity in the UK and Ireland dedicated to supporting pregnancy through cancer and beyond. Your donation means that women diagnosed with any cancer during pregnancy or within a year of a birth are able to reach Mummy's Star and the specialised support they offer. They help families to meet others in a similar position, offer small grants to relieve some financial burden, give support to partners and the wider family, promote awareness and support research.
