Story
Two weeks ago my sister's family heard the words you never want to hear as a parent. 'Your child has cancer'. Those who know Salah knows what a wild, whirlwind he is but the last week he had been lethargic, pale and off his food. On Monday 18th November we tried to get him a doctor's appointment which then resulted in him being sent to Blackburn Royal Hospital.
Within hours he was blue-lighted to Manchester Children's Hospital where he began blood and platelet transfusions before he started chemotherapy the next day. 🥺
Salahman, aged 5,
is now on Ward 86 at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for at least 6 weeks as we begin what is going to be a long but hopefully successful journey to remission. Salahman has leukemia. At the minute it is too early to know how many rounds of chemotherapy he is going to need and how the cancer has affected him so far but we will know more in the next few weeks.
Obviously being away from his sisters and Charlotte and Shaz being away from their daughters is always going to be hard but especially over Christmas, it makes it more difficult. Since being admitted Salahman and Charlotte received the most heartwarming gift from Milly's Smiles which was a bag filled with all the essentials. On the way to the doctors Charlotte would never have predicted this outcome and they arrived with the clothes on their back. Milly's bag was an amazing gift to receive, both essential (because they had been in the same situation and knew exactly what we needed) but also touching as there are sentimental items that have helped us process this news, including the elephant.
So, Adam obviously needs a little challenge and ironically the distance to run to Manchester Children's Hospital is equivalent to a marathon. On Christmas Eve, Adam is going to take on this challenge to raise awareness, raise funds for this fantastic small charity but he's also going to ask for people to donate pyjamas too.
When being in hospital with Salahman he has gone through so many pairs of pyjamas daily due to the side affects from the treatment so it seems like a great item to donate to help other children who are going to be facing this in the future.
So please, if you can donate as generously as you can or buy a pair of children's pyjamas when you do your Christmas shopping and pass them to any member of our family. Let's make Adam's challenge of carrying them there a little trickier for him.
Thank you for your time reading about this.
Each bag costs £140 so we are aiming to raise enough to buy 4 families their own Millie's bag.
If you have a moment head over to Milly's Smiles to find out more about this amazing charity. ❤️
