Story
In October 2023 following months of chest pain and difficulties with swallowing, my Husband Brett was referred for an endoscopy. It was that day that our whole world came crashing down as we received the devastating news that Brett had oesophageal cancer.
The next few weeks were filled with scans, MRIs, blood tests, non-invasive surgery and appointments whilst the specialists gathered all the information they needed to provide a care plan.
Brett was on a curative path, which entailed 8 weeks of FLOT chemotherapy, major surgery to remove his oesophagus and part of his stomach followed by another 8 weeks of FLOT chemotherapy.
Whist fighting this, Brett has absolutely amazed me, still getting in the gym at every opportunity, continuing to work, finding the energy to enjoy some really special times as a family and most importantly remaining a supportive and loving partner and dad to our 3 children.
We even threw in an engagement and a wedding ❤️
Brett has completed all of his treatment and as a family we are now trying to adjust back into ‘normal everyday life’ whist fighting the mental scars this leaves behind. Navigating our way through life has been hard but Macmillian has always been at the other end of the phone to offer help and advice.
Bretts dream would be able to get back to competing in sports events, as he did just 3 days before his diagnosis and I know with his strength and determination he will be there sooner than he thinks!
In May 2025, myself, Jess and Emily along with some friends have challenged ourselves to take on the Norfolk Coast Mighty Hike to help raise money for people living with cancer.
I'd be so grateful if you could help me reach my £750 pledge, which can pay for Macmillan Nurse for one day. This could provide people living with cancer and their families essential medical, practical and emotional support.
Thank you
Love Danielle & Family xx
