This is the 8th year running I have been fortunate to be part of the Derby County Community Trust Team's annual visit to Kenya.

In the 8 years i've been involved with this project i've help support 9 different projects , the aim is for the to be self-sustainable and the more on to the next school that needs our help.

At my project Ungana academy, we have built a perimeter wall to help keep the school secure, built 5 new solid classrooms, plus refurbished 6 classrooms to help provide a better environment in which to learn, distributed school uniform to as many pupils as possible. also provided clothing and shoes to the local schools and people in their community.

Why do I keep going back to Kenya?????..............this is really hard for me to put into words but here goes. If you look through my pictures you will probably think you will have a good idea of what life entails for the kids, they do not do it justice. It is unbelievable and unjust that in 2023 children still live in such extreme poverty. I'm all about giving back and helping in the community.

The children that we are supporting deals with living in the poor suburbs of Nakura, suffering from bad nutrition, health and development. We also support children who have HIV/AIDS and those that have been orphaned and living in a deprived environment.

Each year DCCT raise vital funds which are invested into local programmes, addressing key issues in the community such as health and wellbeing, personal attainment, and community engagement. We have an inclusive, participant centred approach to our work and support people of all ages, gender, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

DCCT provide life-changing opportunities for the young through to the elderly, aiming to give them an opportunity to achieve their goals, develop, and become active and engaged members of the community.

£50 could fund a child, whose family may be suffering financial hardship, through a week of holiday coaching, ensuring they remain active and healthy whilst out of school.

£150 could purchase an electronic table that can be used to bridge the digital divide. Keeping an isolated member of the community connected or enabling a household to have an additional device for schoolwork.

£200 could provide one of our learners with the necessary kit needed to fulfil
