Story

Why I have chose this charity

On the 8th of May 2016 while at work in North Devon I had a phone call to say my dad had stopped at my house whilst driving back from work to his home, as he wasn't feeling well. So I headed back to the house and on entering my front garden I was met with the sight of my dad laying on my lawn with my 15 year old son with him. He was still conscious but complaining of chest pains. We straight away phoned for an ambulance, to only be told they were currently busy and would be there as soon possible. After another 3 calls and over an hour later an ambulance arrived, straight away they started treatment on dad because he was having a major heart attack. They immediately called for the Air Ambulance and within 5 minutes the Air ambulance was landing in the field next to the house. Once he was on board it was only a 15 minute flight to Exeter hospital (which was over an hour in car).

Then roll on a couple of years my Mum (who clearly was jealous that dad had had a ride in a helicopter) came off her horse in a remote location knocking herself unconscious. When she regained consciousness she realised she was in a lot of pain but managed to making call for help. The Air Ambulance was dispatched once again to get her to Plymouth hospital as quick as possible. She had broken ribs and also split her pelvis in half.

Im glad to say after multiple operations both Mum and Dad are doing well! We owe a huge thanks to the Air Ambulance!!

In remote locations the Air Ambulance is essential when vital seconds and minutes count for someone's life. I have decided after living in Mid Wales for nearly 2 years and knowing how remote this area is, the best way to save someones life is to have this essential service.

So on the 26th July I'm heading to Italy and France to try and climb Gran Paradiso (4061m) and then Mont Blanc (4805m) the Highest Mountain in the Alps. This is a personal challenge but at the same time I would like to raise as many donations as possible for the Wales Air Ambulance Charity. Because you never know when we might need them to save a life!
