Story
Birthday fundraiser 17th July – 41 years young!
Help me to help the greater horseshoe bats in Sussex!
A small and pioneering breeding group of the rare greater horseshoe bat has ventured further east for the first time in 100 years to a derelict stable in West Sussex.
Through the dedicated work of Sussex Bat Group and Vincent Wildlife Trust, this vital roost site has now been purchased and saved from the risk of development… but we now have the mammoth task of restoring this dilapidated building to create an incredible roosting site for this pioneering colony.
Hopefully those that know me will vouch that I don't normally ask for anything and I will certainly not make a habit of this – but if you can help then please do… I would offer to shave my head but that's not really a challenge; I only run when I'm being chased; I'm a terrible swimmer and my art skills are awful! So I can't offer much more than a heartfelt Thank You in return.
If anyone has the resources for a significant donation then please do get in touch – I will be eternally grateful and you would be very welcome to join me in the field to see some amazing bats, learn some bat photography or just hang out with a few of my favourite flying mammals.
The roof is our first focus and needs a complete replacement. Just the roof slates are costing 14k – so I hope my birthday fundraiser can contribute towards putting a roof over our winged friends’ heads.
Thanks much,
Daniel ^8^
