Story
Dad was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in December 2022, and after undertaking all the treatment that he could, he sadly passed away 2nd January 2024 with all three of us by his side.
Dad was cared for several times by Haywood House, a hospice in the grounds of Nottingham City Hospital. The care and support dad received over several months was outstanding, and a great comfort to us all knowing that all of the staff were there not only for dad, but also for us.
Dad really appreciated the relaxed atmosphere of the day sessions he attended, the kindness of that all the staff showed him and supporting him through his final months. Having a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere is something that can't be underestimated. We all, dad and us could enjoy our time together.
To enable Haywood House to continue to provide the outstanding care for all those that need it they have several projects that need increased funding. They are raising money to increase the accessibility to several complimentary therapies, a service dad benefited from. Increased staffing, enabling them to support more patients and their families. And finally, improving the building and the wonderful gardens, which again was an area dad enjoyed walking around and taking photos.
