It’s estimated that there are 85,000 children and young people living in the UK with a life-threatening or life-limiting illness.

Since 2003, Rays of Sunshine, have brightened the lives of thousands of seriously ill young people and their families by fulfilling dreams through granting wishes and by providing ongoing support in hospital and within the community.

Their work creates a positive distraction, reduces isolation, improves self-esteem, and creates precious memories and smiles.

Wishes might include having a bedroom makeover, a family trip to Disney Land or like Isla, meeting their favourite author;

Isla (9) - wants to be a writer when she grows up. Stories were a way for her to escape the hospital while she is being treated for her brain tumour. Her mum says that the only time she heard her laugh during treatment was when she was reading. Rays organised for her to have a writer's workshop with her favourite writer, Jacqueline Wilson. Jacqueline helped her to think up an ending to the story she was writing and Isla plans to send the story to her when she's done. She says the experience has made her even more excited to be an author.

The charity doesn't receive any government funding and so are entirely reliant on the incredible generosity of our supporters.

Monies raised will allow Rays of Sunshine to grant more Magical Wishes which give children and young people the chance to put their illness on hold for a day, as well to continue their work in hospitals up and down the country.
