I’ve been putting off writing this because it’s been such difficult news for the family to come to terms with. But at the beginning of March, we lost my beloved grandfather, Dr Amjad Pervaiz (Nana). He was the husband of my grandmother who this charity fundraiser is in honour of. I may well do another fundraiser in his honour, however it feels fitting to include him here as I’ll be thinking of him too. I miss you every day, Nana. I loved and admired you so much, and I’m gutted we lost you so soon. I can’t imagine what Ami is going through, with a terminal diagnosis herself. And my poor mother.
I hope that we can all find peace, and that Nana finds a place in Jannah (Heaven).
I’m running the Essar Chester Half Marathon 2024 in honour of my grandmother, Samina Amjad (Ami), who was sadly given a terminal diagnosis of stage 4 breast cancer last year.
Being from a culture full of tradition, Ami has always surprised me in the most amazing ways. She’s the type of person who doesn’t care what you do as long as you’re happy. She’s always been supportive of me, and loved and cherished me, no matter what I did, as long as I was happy.
So now, I want to make Ami happy, at least one final time. I want to give back to her the energy, strength and determination she has always shown, especially during her battle with cancer. By participating in this half-marathon, I want to raise money, in Ami’s honour, for the charity which has cared for her over the past few years.
The charity; Imran Khan Cancer Appeal, raises funds for Shaukhat Khanum hospital in Lahore, Pakistan, where Ami gets her treatment from. They’ve been absolutely amazing in keeping her spirits high, and caring for her and my grandad during this difficult time. Ami is strong and resilient, yes, but without the high quality care she’s been receiving from Shaukhat Khanum, she wouldn’t still be with us today.
I understand times are difficult at the moment with the cost of living crisis in the UK, so please don’t feel pressured to donate any more than you can afford to. Thank you!
