Story
Coming up to 12 years now since my 2305km walk to Luxembourg so about time I found a new challenge worthy of pestering people for money for charity!
This time round I am planning to attempt to paddleboard the 96km from Fort William to Inverness along the Great Glen canal in one day, or under 14 hours to be precise.
Years ago I had looked into paddling this route over the 4-5 days it is more commonly done, but never got around to it. Then I saw the 2-day Great Glen Challenge and though that sounded like an interesting option. When I went to sign up, I saw the tickbox to register for the 1-day attempt... 'click' ...
Reading into it a bit after signing up, I noticed that no one has actually managed it under 14 hours (the official deadline of the 1-day race) on an inflatable SUP... I should have probably checked that before signing up, if professional racers and sponsored athletes haven't done it, chances of me doing it are pretty slim/non-existant... heyho, may as well give it my best shot and use it as motivation to train as hard as I can over the next months...
As for charity, I decided to go for the Archie Foundation after some deliberating. With the amount of problems all around the world deserving attention, I couldn't think of where to even begin, so I decided to start and make a difference locally and focus on the future, ie the little people! The Archie Foundation is aiming to provide better healthcare for children, which sounds like a great and worthwhile cause to me!
