Story
This October with a group of my closest community I will be running the Bournemouth Half Marathon.
In 2013, 10 years ago, I was a passenger in a car accident and sustained a severe traumatic brain injury.
Following the accident I was in an induced coma for 14 days and was in hospital for a further 6 weeks. I have had to learn to walk, talk, write, swim, drive, cycle, - you name it I learnt it again. Plus the most difficult task of learning to socialise again.
Those who knew me pre 2013 will have seen me as a confident and social person. To become a version of this again was my biggest challenge.
My recovery has been monumental, I was told I shouldn’t go back to university to study events and that my life would probably be smaller. I received a 1st at university and have travelled the world since.
This would not have been possible without my community. I am in awe of them and indebted to them for their love and support - not just for me but for my family who they supported when my future was unknown.
I am running the half marathon at the Bournemouth Running Festival along with my brother and sisters and my mum Michele (featured in the photo in the red coat), who I would not be here without, is running a 5K and Dad, Mike, who is running a 10k and extended family and friends who are joining.
We are fundraising for Headway a small charity that supported me and my family at the early stages of my recovery.
