I'm running two marathons in two days this April - including a Mountain Marathon and Guiding London - how on earth did that happen?
Last year, I spotted a new race - Ras y Bannau - close to my family home in Penderyn and decided - why not. 26.2 miles, over 5,000 feet of climbing and many Bannau ... The first Ras y Bannau takes place on the 26th of April.
A few months later, I get a text from my friend and running partner Tracey Hinton MBE - 'great news we're in for London'. Tracey is a blind runner and a former paralympian - and I'm one of her guide runners. How exciting I think, I'll be running and guiding London for the first time ... and then I check the date ... the 27th of April! Eek!
So what do we do? Never one to say no to a challenge ... why not do both and aim between us to run 160km* in the week of the marathons? And for the first time in some years for me - why not raise some funds for a worthwhile charity?
What better cause then than Sight Life (formerly Cardiff Institute for the Blind) who are celebrating their 160th birthday this year. And having met with Sight Life and Welsh Athletics the plan is to use the money raised to improve the opportunities for visually impaired runners to link up with guide runners in Wales. So many more people could enjoy running as much as Tracey and I do.
Yes, the challenge is slightly crazy - but every penny raised will go to an excellent cause ... Stay tuned for more updates!
