Story
I'm cycling the Way of the Roses, 170 miles from coast to coast, to raise money for Tiratanaloka. It's four days ride from sea to sea, across Lancashire hills and Yorkshire dales, through whatever fine Northern weather comes my way, I am pedalling hard for a big cause!
Tiratanaloka retreat centre has helped hundreds of women deepen their Buddhist practice to the point of ordination through friendship, Dharma study and Buddhist practice. But they've outgrown their building. They need money for a bigger, better centre so that many more can benefit from the inspiration that the Tiratanaloka team provides.
I want more women to be able to go deeper together and I want ordination to be more truly equal. Since I was ordained earlier this year I've noticed there are fewer women in the Order, especially women my own age, and I want to help change this for everyone's sake.
My life was electrified in training for my own ordination through meeting men who are an example of real, uncompromising individuals. I want more women to have their own experience of meeting similarly inspiring women at Tiratanaloka.
I think the Triratna Buddhist Order and movement are a force for good in the world, creating community based on an enlightened vision, a vision of love. Equal opportunities for growth is an essential part of this. I'm raising money because this is the kind of world I want us all to live in. Part of the revolution!
