Story
Not only did they give my mum a gift pack which made her day whilst she was in hospital. After nearly 2 years of volunteering, I can see first hand how much the work we do helps people in hospital undergoing cancer treatment. Something as simple as a puzzle book or some dry skin lotion can bring such joy and comfort to someone at a time when all they can think about is worry. So I’m doing it to help support and fund the gift packs to make as many people smile as I can.
About us and how your support will help us make a difference
At The Lewis Foundation we source, package and hand deliver gift packs for free to adult cancer patients in hospitals in the Midlands and the community weekly. These are items that patients might find difficult to buy themselves or simply cannot afford and that brings people happiness and comfort at a difficult time. For many people in the hospital and the community, our volunteers are their only regular visitors.
How it works in the hospital is that patients pick a gift pack of their choice from our gift list when they either arrive for treatment or they receive it during their hospital stay. Packs range from toiletries, puzzle books and miniature radios. Once the gift is received, we then spend time with people to reduce loneliness.
Due to our work with businesses/wholesalers and members of the public fundraising 1 gift costs £3.60. A really simple way to make a huge difference.
