Story
Just over 18 months ago, while strapped to a spinal board in an ambulance I wondered if I would ever be back on a bike again, let alone taking on the London Ride 100 on the 28th May. Mr Peter Domos, orthopaedic surgeon extraordinaire, reminded me on many occasions I was lucky to be alive (bike helmets save lives kids!) and he certainly worked a fair amount of magic in literally screwing me back together again.
As many of you know, and my family despair over, I don’t give up easily! With their support and the amazing work of Harriet Kefford and Jo Kelly at Pure Sports Medicine, I’m well and truly back on a bike (a nice new shiny Canyon Ultimate) and kind of ready to take on a 100m/160km sportive. The longest I’ve managed to ride since my accident is just over 100km, so fingers crossed I can complete the ride.
I count myself very lucky and happily celebrate being alive. So many people are not so lucky, being faced with horrendous domestic abuse, looking for help and support in escaping, being able to rebuild their lives, and over time have an opportunity to celebrate life! I appreciate times are tough at the moment, but your sponsorship can make a such a huge difference by supporting the amazing work of Refuge.
So please support my efforts to complete the Ride 100, hopefully the little bit of suffering I will experience on the bike will be more than worth it if we can raise some funds for Refuge.
Thank you in advance and for anyone else taking part in the London Ride 100 – stay safe and Ride On!
