Story
Two big earthquakes hit Turkey, my home country on February 6th, killing and injuring thousands and affecting millions of people. You can see the news coverage on many major media organisations.
There are coordination problems, logistic hurdles, limited medical and humanitarian resources. It is extremely cold and a lot of people are without homes or shelter. Many more are still under the rubble and waiting to be saved. Local NGOs and volunteers are organising aid campaigns among themselves while the government is also trying to solve these problems.
We're glued to the news, feeling useless, and hopeless. Remembering the similar disasters we experienced since our childhood. I'm sure I'm not the only Turkish immigrant/expat sitting in with these weird, angry, hopeless, guilt-loaded feelings. Watching the events unfold, safe, from the places we call home, but away from our first home and family.
All I can do right now to help is to support local organisations working hard to save lives and provide aftercare for people who lost their homes.
I'm hosting a virtual coworking event to support a fundraising run by Turkey Mozaik Foundation, which provides grants and financial support to innovative civil society organisations in Turkey.
Please consider donating £5 as a ticket price and register for the event here: https://lu.ma/fundraiser-coworking
100% of all donations will go directly to Turkey Mozaik Foundation's
Kahramanmaras Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund.
