Story
Country vs Cancer
Blood Cancer is the UK's third biggest cancer killer. In 2020, just before Christmas, my mum was one of the approximately 16,000 people who died of it that year.
I've put a lot of energy over the last three years into repressing the feelings of sadness, injustice and helplessness that this evoked in me. Playing and writing music, specifically Country/Blues, has been a big part of this. It offers a musical language for grief which has allowed me to engage with these feelings in a controlled way.
In 2024, I'm hoping to redivert that energy more productively, in a way that will hopefully save and improve lives.
Initially this will mean busking, but I'd love to collaborate with other musicians to make this project bigger and better. Who knows what the future holds, but I'll be coming to a Hampshire street near you as the weather warms up and I can feel my fingers!
Blood Cancer UK
We're a community dedicated to beating blood cancer. We do this by funding research and supporting those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. Right now, our community is funding 360 researchers and staff across the UK who are searching for the next breakthrough. The day we will beat blood cancer is now in sight and the researchers are determined to finish the job.
