Story
In May, I'm running home. It's a journey spanning over 115 miles, with a flight from Cardiff to Belfast to bridge the gap over the Irish Sea. The plan is to run, walk, or even crawl the 115 miles in about 28 hours—from my home in Porthcawl, Wales, to my family home in Cavan, Ireland.
This isn't an organized event; it will take place on rough coastal path of south Wales and dodgy back roads of Northern Ireland, mostly under the cover of darkness, very likely in the rain, and with a high chance of getting lost. All in all, it's a terrible idea, but I did it last year through Dublin. I raised thousands for homeless charities, and it was an incredible experience. So, I’m doing it again.
Every day, I see people sleeping rough; from the station in Wales to the streets and shop doorways I run past each morning and night in London. It’s a major issue that we all tend to ignore, but we really shouldn’t as it seems to be getting worse. My chosen charity, Shelter, helps people off the streets and back into homes. With everything that's going on now, they have never been busier or more reliant on donations, making this the best focus for the funds.
So, I'm going to attempt to run 115 miles home, calling the project "Home to Home," and raise whatever I can for those with no home, through Shelter UK and Wales.
I have a few brave souls joining me for sections of the route; if you fancy it, get in touch—the more, the merrier.
So please support the homeless by donating to Shelter below, and if I'm still alive in May, I'll buy you a pint!
