Story

This January, we’re kicking off the New Year with a mission: Jumping into January to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH)! Over the years, we’ve proudly raised £44,000 for this incredible cause, and with your help, we aim to surpass £50,000 by the end of January 2025.

After the festive indulgence, many of us feel a bit sluggish—so we are jumpstarting the year together by committing to 30 minutes of daily activity. Whether it’s walking the dog, doing the school run on foot instead of driving, or skipping the delivery and picking it up ourselves. Every step brings us closer to our goal and supports the life-changing work of GOSH.

Our Charity Champion for January and GOSH is Rhian Reynolds. GOSH is a charity held closely to Rhian's heart, due to her stepdaughter Rea's journey.

Rea's Journey

In August 2016, Rhian's stepdaughter Rea, was born with a condition called TOF/OA (tracheo-oesophageal fistula and oesophageal atresia), which meant that when she was born, her stomach wasn’t attached to her oesophagus which prevented her from being able to swallow.

They were told very early on that she would require multiple surgeries to fix this issue, and that Cardiff hospital would not be able to perform these surgeries as they were too complex. They were told that at some point, Rea would have to go to London to have these surgeries in Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Rea remained in Cardiff NICU for 6 months as she was too small to be able to have the surgeries but then in March 2017 she was transferred to GOSH to start having the surgeries and procedures she needed.

What was meant to only be a 2 week stay for the surgery and then a transfer back to Cardiff NICU for recovery ended up being nearly 2 months in GOSH due to the complexities of the surgery Rea ultimately ended up requiring and the care she needed that only GOSH could provide.

GOSH provided the best medical team for her surgery and aftercare which made her stay that little bit easier. For Rhian's family it was a terrifying time, but the world class surgeons and doctors and caring nurses helped alleviate some of that worry and fear.

GOSH not only has amazing staff but the facilities also assist families who are trying to live a normal family life in an abnormal situation.

GOSH is funded by the NHS for its day-to-day operating, however they do rely heavily on charitable donations such as the donations Convey Law has provided over the years. Without donations such as ours, GOSH would be unable to provide families like ours with the comfort and support during the most traumatic time a parent can face.

They are able to provide areas for the children to enjoy and play and have some sort of semblance of a normal day for a child, they provide accommodation for parents to be able to stay with their child in an otherwise costly city, they provide counselling and guidance for families and they also work with other institutions to provide special days for the children and parents.
