Story
In August 2024 our family went on what we thought would be a relaxing holiday, soaking up the Spanish sun and drinking sangria. But that holiday quickly took a different turn of events.
This was because my father Rodney aged 58 suffered two strokes whilst we were there. Resulting in him being taken into Malaga hospital for quite some time. The strokes caused some severe changes to his brain. For anyone who doesn't know much about strokes, its essentially part of your brain shutting down, and part of you as a person. It is life changing and recovery can be very tough, it effects speech, physical ability, and in some cases can be even worse. It all happens within the blink of an eye.
He was then repatriated back to the UK when he was stable enough has now begun his recovery. He is the hardest working man I know, and has been working double the overtime to rebuild his brain and get his life back to how it was before this all took place. Speech and language therapy and physio therapy almost daily. Anyone who knows him knows he is such a strong willing character to say the least. And that trait is carrying him through some huge amounts of progress everyday! Which we are so thankful for.
The help that Stroke association gave us in such a stressful situation was amazing. They helped with signposting us to the correct places for information, and helping to navigate our way around what was a very surreal moment. Firstly dealing with the news, but also the logistics of getting him home and finding the right care and support for him here in the UK!
So with all that in mind we have set a challenge to raise money for the brilliant team at stroke association to continue to help families and stroke survivors in similar scenarios.
ACTIVITY DETAILS:
ISLE OF WIGHT PERIMETER ON KICK SCOOTERS 18/19th April 2025
Joe Choppen Scooting
Conor Holt Scooting
Philip Holt Support and Running
Most people cycle around the Isle of wight perimeter 64.5/ 65 Miles in total. However we decided to do something a bit different and we are doing this on good old fashioned kick powered scooters (as life is too short to be normal) We might just be the first people ever to do it on scooters!
A grand total of 64.5/65 miles will be covered over the course of 2/3 days covering the island's perimeter on our kick powered scooters on 18th 19th April 2025. Philip Holt will be supporting us and running along side us at points of the journey. And driving a support vehicle taking some videos and updating you all along the way.
Any donations would be hugely appreciated!
