Cardiff Half Marathon 2024 · 6 October 2024 ·

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

Georgie and I will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of Gina Campanini who tragically passed away, aged 30, due to sepsis.

We feel incredibly lucky to be able to call Gina’s sister Maria one of our closest friends. Those who love Maria know how unique and special she is.

Our entire ‘uni gang’ has always been inspired by Maria’s determination to do good through charitable means. In the wake of Gina’s passing, Maria has redoubled her charitable efforts and dedicated herself to raising awareness with unparalleled energy and commitment.

It is now our turn to get involved!

Georgie and I will run the 13.1 miles around Cardiff thinking of Gina, her legacy, and the impact that she continues to have.

Any contribution that you can donate will be hugely appreciated and will fund the fight against sepsis.

A note from the Charity

Fundraising is at the heart of the fight against sepsis. It raises awareness, and sparks the question: What is sepsis?

In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths and unnecessary suffering through knowledge and awareness of the symptoms.
