We campaign to end men's violence against women

Story

We will use our annual CanJam Game Jam to raise money for the White Ribbon Campaign - a national charity that works to end violence against women & girls. https://www.whiteribbon.org.uk

The issue of violence against women has been at the forefront of national attention in recent years, and the problem is everywhere. As computer scientists, we recognise that sexism and gender-based violence continue to be rife in our field, and as a society, we are collectively taking a stand against it and demonstrating that we support the fight to end men’s violence against women. #changethestory

We also recognise that our member base is very male-heavy, and we want to show that we support women within society, the field, and the extended community.

Our annual CanJam is a time-honoured tradition within the society, named for its slogan “A Jam Because We Can”. It was born out of boredom, evolved into an opportunity for students to network with our alumni, and now we’re using it to support a great cause as well. It lasts for 48 consecutive hours, during which time participants have to create a game of any kind to fit a theme and modifiers selected by the committee.

Please join us in supporting the White Ribbon Campaign and help us to end violence against women.

We work with men and boys to challenge harmful cultures that lead to harassment, abuse and violence. Our White Ribbon Ambassadors and Champions engage with men and boys to call out such behaviour among their peers and promote a culture of equality and respect.
