Story
I will be competing in the Marathon des Sables 2024 to raise money for Spinal Research. The race will consist of running 252km through the Sahara desert of Morocco over 6 stages and 7 days with average temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
Spinal cord injury is an area of research close to my heart and that of my family and local community. Two very important people, my late uncle Alun and my good friend Jon sustained spinal cord injuries in their 20s. Despite this, my Uncle and Jon have both been inspirational figures of resilience in my life.
This challenge is entirely self funded and all proceeds will go directly to Spinal Research.
Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord.
They receive no government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for their research. Because of the efforts of their supporters, they have funded innovative medical research that has achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field.
I am extremely grateful for any donations you are able to contribute.
