A Big Apple-tite for Running!
Colin and Karen are running a marathon! And not just any marathon, the New York Marathon 2024! Alongside a group of 25 dedicated other runners, many who are serving or retired police officers, we are determined to cross that finish line!
We are taking on what for us is an immense challenge to help raise funds for the PC Nicola Hughes memorial fund!
Karen is also completing this as part of her 15 year breast cancer survival celebration where she completes 5 challenges for every 5 years of survival! This time she is completing Macchu Picchu, New Forest Half, Royal Parks Half, NY Marathon and the Forest Holme Strictly Event Group dance!
We are so grateful for donations big or small, every little helps this amazing charity to continue the fantastic work they are doing x
The Charity
You may be aware of events in Manchester in September 2012 where two unarmed Police Officers, Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone, where shot following a routine burglary call. In honour of Nicola her father, Bryn Hughes, set up the memorial fund.
The aims of the charity are to provide learning opportunities and pre employment skills in the form of support through grants or services to children (under 21) who have suffered a tragic loss of a close family member through a violent crime such as murder or manslaughter.
The charity have seen first hand the devastating effect this has on people, and how adults cope in the aftermath is very different to how children cope.
The charity help them to try and rebuild their lives and look towards the future. To be able to stand on their own feet by continuing with education, where financial situations may have changed, or start that course which will enable them to gain employment
