Running the London Marathon 2024 for Cardiac Risk in the Young

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.
In June 2019, my fit and healthy 24 year old son Aaron, was on his way home from work, when he had a cardiac arrest on the train. Luckily he was surrounded by people in his carriage who immediately came to his assistance and the station the train was approaching had a de-fribilator. The irony is that being a fit 24 year old, may have contributed to his surviving this traumatic event.
I have sat and watched many London Marathons over the years. There are always stories of young people like Aaron, who sadly did not survive. I ran a 10,000 km for CRY in 2020 with Aaron and one of the guys who helped to keep his heart working when he collapsed. It was Aaron who had made contact with the charity initially, as they offered support to him.
I realise that we have been blessed not to have been another one of those sad stories but that sad stories will still need to be told. However, the other thing about the London marathon is how inspirational it can be, with people running as part of their contribution to making a difference. That's all I will be doing on the 21st April 2024, and of course, selfishly to say I ran the London Marathon!
By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.
