Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit Coexistence's JustGiving page.
Ten years ago, Coexistence raised funds to help introduce a second Maggie’s Centre to London, Maggie’s Barts. Since then, two new centres have been built across the city, and we are proud to have been part of ensuring that anyone in London who needs it has access to a Maggie’s Centre.
Maggie’s Barts, Maggie’s Royal Free, Maggie’s Royal Marsden and Maggie’s West London will facilitate over 70,000 visits from people with cancer in 2024.
On 5th June 2024, Coexistence hosted a special evening at the Maggie’s Barts Centre to celebrate our 50th Anniversary and to launch a new fundraising campaign to raise £50,000 in our 50th Year for Maggie’s.
Recent years have been extremely challenging, with the pandemic and now the cost-of-living crisis, and has been especially so for people living with cancer.
For some, the cost of having cancer has become so much that they are having to make the difficult decision to stop treatment to avoid further money worries. Maggie’s support has never felt more important or needed.
Maggie's cancer experts are working tirelessly to ensure they support everyone who walks through their doors. Their Benefits Advisors help people claim benefits to help cover the cost of bills, and their Cancer Support Specialists and Psychologists are there to listen to people and help them manage their anxieties and worries.
Maggie’s conducted a survey that found one in two people with cancer consider stopping treatment early because of money worries. Their Benefit advisors offer individual advice and support on the benefits that apply to people with cancer, and their families and friends. In 2023, Maggie’s helped visitors to London centres claim £8.4million, and this is expected to increase to £9million in 2024.
People with cancer can face tough questions, exhausting treatment and difficult emotions that can range from anxiety to loneliness and isolation. The need for critical psychological and practical support is greater than ever. People can drop into a centre at any time and get advice from an expert on the myriad of questions that will inevitably arise. Maggie’s team of psychologists and cancer support specialists offer mindfulness, relaxation, and stress management as well 1:1 sessions and group support such as bereavement support.
Can you help?
- £20 could help pay for a session with a Benefits Advisor for help and advice on money worries and the extra support that may be available. This means Maggie’s visitors can stop worrying about finances and focus on treatment.
- £35 could help pay for a session of support with a Clinical Psychologist to manage stress and anxiety, and if feeling scared, worried, or if things are becoming overwhelming.
- £250 could help pay for a six-week bereavement course, led by our psychologists to support our centre visitors in dealing with loss; helping to find a way to start moving forward.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to our goal and helps Maggie's continue their important work. Your support means a lot to us and will make a significant difference.
Thank you
