Go Orange for Trauma Support – Friday, May 19th 2023
Cobra Network is proud to support Day One Trauma and we are joining them on their Go Orange event on May 19th, to raise much-needed funds. We would love if you could help us by either getting involved yourself in your own brokerage, spreading the word and/or making a donation.
Day One are the only charity supporting all major trauma patients, regardless of their type of injury. The charity began in Leeds Teaching Hospital, at the Leeds General Infirmary but their ambition is to roll out to 27 Major Trauma Networks and to have a presence in every Major Trauma Centre in the UK, ensuring that every patient affected by major traumatic injury can benefit from the advice and support they may need to embark on and improve their recovery journey.
There are around 20,000 major trauma cases in England and Wales every year and the average age of patients is just under 40 years old. Sadly around 16,000 people in England and Wales die every year following injury (according to the Trauma Audit and Research Network, 2021). The introduction of Major Trauma Centres in 2014 vastly improved the care and clinical outcomes of this group of patients, increasing chances of survival by 19 per cent and reducing time spent in hospital.
Despite the excellent clinical care that patients receive in an NHS Major Trauma Centre, care predominantly focuses on treating the physical injuries, but there is a much wider impact which a major traumatic injury can have on life beyond admission to hospital, which in reality, could be changed beyond all comprehension.
How you can get involved
Day One Trauma don’t receive any government funding and rely on the generosity of people like us to help them be by the side of patients and their families....from Day One to as long as is needed. Our aim is to raise much-needed funds to support this fabulous charity in achieving their ambition to roll out 27 major trauma networks across the UK.
You can get involved by ‘Going Orange’ in your office on the 19th of May, here is a link that explains more about the day with fundraising ideas.
