Story
On 15th and 16th May, a team of three cyclists from TBAT Innovation will take on an unforgettable challenge, cycling coast to coast across the Scottish Highlands in support of Stand Against MND and in memory of our colleague, Sam Perkins.
Over two tough days, Ryan, Richard, and Dave will cycle a total of 312 miles, pushing themselves to their limits to raise awareness and funds for this important cause.
Starting on the west coast of Scotland in Lochcarron, near the Isle of Skye, the route will take the team across to the east coast, finishing in Aberdeen. The journey will include some of the UK's most demanding climbs, such as the steep Bealach na Bà (9.2km with a 7% gradient) and Cairngorm Mountain (5.5km at a 5% gradient), as they navigate through Wester Ross and the Cairngorms.
They’ll be supported on the road by Ian, who will drive the support van, ensuring the cyclists are well-fueled and ready to tackle every mile.
Meanwhile, back at the TBAT office, a team of 10 colleagues will be working hard to cover the same 312 miles on a stationary spinning bike. Rotating in a relay, they’ll strive to match the cyclists’ efforts and show their support.
Together, both teams will be raising crucial funds for Stand Against MND, a charity dedicated to helping those affected by Motor Neuron Disease.
This year’s challenge is kindly sponsored by Velorim, a company committed to making cycling greener by collecting and recycling inner tyres, tubes, and Li-ion batteries.
Thank you for your support—every donation makes a difference!
In memory of
This year, our charity bike ride challenge is dedicated to the memory of our colleague, Sam Perkins, who sadly passed away in February. Sam was part of the TBAT team from 2012 to 2016 and rejoined us in 2018. In March 2019, Sam was diagnosed with MND, with him taking a back seat from his role at TBAT later that year.
Sam founded Stand Against MND, a charity that, over the next five years, raised more than £250,000. All funds raised for the charity go towards supporting MND research and providing palliative care for those living with the disease.
A true fitness enthusiast, Sam went from training for local triathlons at East Leake Leisure Centre to completing an Ironman Triathlon in just a few years — an incredible achievement. Above all, Sam was a fantastic person, and a huge asset to everyone's life.
Any donations, no matter how big or small are greatly appreciated.
