Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have funded this trip entirely myself so 100% of all donations go to the Maggies Highlands Centre.

On the 1st of July I will be leaving the UK to embark on what will be the toughest thing I have ever done, climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilinmajaro stands at 5895m tall and is the world's highest free standing mountain.

Unfortunately in November 2020 I received the shocking news that my friend, Lorna, had been diagnosed with cancer. This was a very real reminder to me that we need to make the make the most of life and try to do the things we really want to do as we never know what is around the corner. For me climbing Kilimanjaro was one of those things (although I never thought I would get round to it) and so without hesitation I booked this trip.

I thought this would also be a great opportunity to do a bit of fundraising for a charity that helped Lorna and her family through this tough time. Maggies Highland was nominated by Lorna's husband - Davy Mackinnon.

Maggie’s Highland is a warm and welcoming place with a fantastic team that provide emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends in need for as long as they are needed. All donations are very much appreciated and will go a long way to helping Maggies to continue to offer this amazing support.

Lorna's husband, Davy Mackinnon, has shared his story about how much Maggie’s has helped him over the past few years and it really highlights what a difference they make. Please find it linked below and take the time to read if you can.

At the summit of Kilimanjaro there is only 49% of the oxygen that there is at sea level therefore I have been training hard to be as fit as possible to give me the best chance of making it to the summit. However there is still a chance that I won't make it to the top due to altitude sickness but I am going to give this my best shot.
