Story
In April, the three of us are going to be attempting the London Landmark’s Half Marathon for the incredible Max Windle Memorial Trust…
Iz: Throughout my time working in the police, a large part of my role in uniform became responding to and helping people in crisis who were experiencing poor mental health. I continue to be shocked by how many of those suffering are young people. Having worked closely alongside mental health teams and professionals, I’ve seen firsthand how critically underfunded they are. Sadly, with poor mental health levels increasing nationwide, they aren’t able to provide the service they once could. That’s why foundations like the MWMT are so important; I’m thrilled to be running for such an incredible cause and to take on the challenge of my first half marathon!
Sue: I was looking for a challenge to do in my 60th year. Not only did I want it to push me out of my comfort zone, but also for it to be something that would benefit others. The idea of the half marathon was born and I get to run alongside Iz, Mads and the wonderful supporters of MWMT. It’s a charity we’re thrilled to run for and supports a cause very close to my heart - aiming to improve and support the mental health of children and young adults. Not being a natural runner, I began the couch to 5km in October. It’s been onwards and upwards since and even enabled us three to complete (and even enjoy) a 10km over Christmas which seemed quite a feat in September! The training continues….
Mads: When Kate asked if I was up for running the Half Marathon on behalf of the MWMT, it was a no brainer. Despite feeling at the time that even 5km was a long way out of my capabilities, I couldn’t bypass the opportunity to challenge myself and support such an important cause. Through close family and friends it’s been obvious what a critical difference mental health support can make for those struggling. Whilst the thought of completing a half marathon does scare me (lots), I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed pushing myself in the training and I’m really excited to run through London amongst such a fantastic group of people.
Thank you all for reading and we massively appreciate any donations you feel able to give to support our challenge for the MWMT!
Love Iz, Sue & Mads x
