Story
We are raising funds for the Welsh Air Ambulance as a massive thank you for their huge role in saving our lovely daughter/sister/niece/cousin’s life following a significant road accident on 27th February 2024.
It was a dark and foggy evening when Gemma headed home after finishing a rugby training session where she worked as a Physio. A closed road and a wrong turn found her on a country road where she was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. The combined effort of everyone involved that evening (from the people in the other car to the police, to the off-duty police officer who stopped to help, to the ambulance and air ambulance services to the NHS staff in Cardiff) was simply outstanding.
The air ambulance travelled by road rather than air (given the location and prevailing weather conditions) and were able to get Gemma ready for emergency brain surgery immediately upon her arrival at the Cardiff Trauma Centre. This early intervention was lifesaving, and we are forever grateful. Six months on Gemma is phasing back to work and working hard on all aspects of her recovery – she is doing amazingly well.
With our nephew, Frankie, marrying the lovely Weiduo who is from Chengdu next April, we hatched a plan to enter the Chengdu Marathon (one aunt and two cousins)/Half Marathon (Mum, brother, an uncle and 5 cousins) in October this year. There is a varying level of running experience/ability in the team but we are putting our best foot forward to hopefully raise a few pounds to support the amazing work of the Welsh Air Ambulance.
The Wales Air Ambulance attend around 4,000 incidents each year,
attending the highest-level emergency calls that involve life or limb-threatening incidents. (less than 1% of all 999 calls received). They are charity funded and rely entirely on donations to provide this critical service in often difficult to reach locations.
Please consider making a donation today. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help to get us around on the day and to reach our fund-raising goal. Thank you so much for your support.
