Story
Following a routine scan I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and am now exactly half way through my chemotherapy treatment.
During my hospital visits I have become acutely aware as to how lucky I am. I am being well looked after by the medical staff and of course by Colin, Emily and Charlotte, my wider family, my friends, colleagues and my running group. Many others do not have this and also have added worries - financial, housing, child care, work, benefits, transport to appointments, isolation, where to seek support. The list is extensive and must make what is already a very daunting time even more frightening.
Together with my running friends at The South Cerney Stragglers we are setting out to support The FOCUS Cancer Charity that is part of the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity. The FOCUS support centre is situated in the heart of the Oncology Centre in the outpatient waiting area of Cheltenham General Hospital. The team is there to support patients at every step; from a diagnosis of cancer to advice during and beyond treatment. The team work alongside the NHS clinical team and offer daily support of pre-chemotherapy and pre-radiotherapy information sessions together with practical and emotional support and advice to patients and their families and carers. Nothing is too much trouble and the support and advice that they give is invaluable. Please donate if you are able. It will be much appreciated.
Thank you 🙏
