Story

Midwives on a Mission!

We plan to walk the full length (84 miles) of the infamous Hadrians Wall Path, starting on September 13. The challenging, long distance walk will be tackled from West to East and follows the UNESCO World Heritage Site from Bowness on Solway in Cumbria to Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend in North Tyneside.

Planning and training by the team of Midwives is already underway to prepare for the 20mile per day challenge which will involve overnight camping stops on route and be supported by a trusted crew of family and friends.

The Northallerton based Friarage Maternity Centre offers Holistic maternity care to the local and neighbouring communities for pregnancy, birth and beyond and serves an area of more than 1000 square km, forming part of the wider South Tees NHS Trust maternity services. It includes a freestanding midwife led birth centre with a birth pool, We strive to empower women and birthing people to have the best possible pregnancy, birth and postnatal experiences.

2024 sees Friarage Maternity Centre celebrate its 10th anniversary as a midwife led unit and we plan to launch new services from the centre to further enhance the outstanding care that we already offer.

In order to do this we need your help!

We plan to refurbish 'The Old Theatre' to create a calm and relaxing space that we can use to offer pregnancy and birth relaxation sessions, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal education sessions, postnatal support groups plus much more.

We would also like to update our birthing rooms with enhanced equipment to create calm holistic spaces and a home from home evironment such as next to me cribs, blue tooth speakers, mood lighting and soft furnishings.

Thanks to your generous donations we are able to enhance patient care and the wellbeing of our incredible NHS staff by funding initiatives over and above what the NHS would routinely provide.

Whether it’s state of the art equipment, pioneering research or increased staff training, we’re committed to helping our local NHS go further. 💙
