Hi I’m Clara! I am 16 and in my final year of school at James Gillespies High School in Edinburgh where I have been studying subjects including Gaelic, Modern Studies, History, English and Music. I am very excited to have been selected for a volunteering placement abroad with Project Trust and will start my 8 month placement in Ghana in January 2026. This will include volunteering in a school with children around preschool and primary school ages and I will likely also be involved in social work outside of school with children in care or with difficult home lives.

Project Trust is a charity that has facilitated long-term overseas placements for over 50 years. Ethics are extremely important to them and they only operate in places that want volunteers. All volunteers are trained before we leave and are put in roles that are not taking away jobs and opportunities from locals but where we can create lasting positive impacts on children and their communities.

I am very passionate about having a positive impact on the children in their education and their personal development. I really enjoy working with young people and have experience from working as a swimmimg teacher and babysitter as well as volunteering in younger classes at my school which helps me feel confident that I will be able get involved in the rural community and make a strong connection with the children there. I am looking forward to learning about their culture and traditions and making memories of a lifetime.
