Story
This Father’s Day, I am jumping out of a plane to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Right now, more than 3 million people are living with cancer in the UK. Macmillan provide emotional, practical, physical and financial support for cancer patients and their families.
On Monday 18th July 2022, my lovely dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. His diagnosis was devasting and came as a complete shock to all of us who were privileged enough to have known him. Sadly, when Dad was diagnosed, the cancer was already advanced and he passed away just 8 weeks later at 53 years old. Macmillan were there for my dad from the day he was diagnosed. They provided Dad with a specialist cancer nurse who supported us as a family through such a hard time. Nothing was too much trouble for Macmillan who answered all our questions and helped to make sense of such a devastating diagnosis. As a family we were completely lost and had no idea which way to turn, Macmillan helped to make sense of this and guided us every step of the way.
Dad was a daredevil and I know that skydiving was something which he would have loved to have done. I am absolutely terrified, but I want to do it not only to make him proud, but to raise money for an amazing charity who helped him throughout the last 8 weeks of his life. The money raised will enable Macmillan to help more cancer patients and families in their hour of need.
