Story
Thank you for visiting our page to raise funds for brain tumour research.
You are either a family member, a friend or colleague of Eoin, or are supporting one of Eoin’s friends or colleagues in raising money for this underfunded research.
So far we have participated in, or are about to participate in, a number of ways to raise money;
- Wear a Hat Day (which is Brain Tumour Research's national day to raise awareness)
- half marathons
- individual team walks
- a large team walk of 30 miles between our head offices at Bracknell and Pimlico.
Here is Eoin's story which he wrote before our first fundraising event:
"In September last year, I was diagnosed with a stage four brain tumour, since being diagnosed, I’ve found that very little is known about what causes brain tumours. How they are treated now is pretty similar to how they were treated around 10-years ago.
In July 2023 I had some symptoms, including headaches, but they weren’t anything out of the ordinary. Then in August, the headaches became stronger along with sickness. My wife took me to see an out-of-hours GP who sent me to casualty for some scans. I was quickly diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and have since had two tumours removed. This was followed by daily radiotherapy for six weeks alongside daily chemotherapy tablets, and then after a short break to recover I started six months of chemotherapy tablets for a few days out of every month which I am undertaking at the moment.
I work in an absolutely amazing team; they all just put their arms around me when I’m having a tough day. But the normality of working helps. The biggest part for me was voluntarily giving up my driving licence. Previously, I’d probably be driving 20,000 miles a year, seeing people face to face; now, I do it virtually.
For 'Wear a hat day' on the 28th of March, me and my colleagues are all going to be wearing a hat to raise awareness and do a bit of fundraising on the day. This will then kick start more events across the country by other team members. One of my colleagues came up with the great idea of doing a charity walk between our two head office locations in Bracknell and London. The plan is to walk between the two sites, pop into some local branches along the way and do some fundraising - but we’ll wait until the weather is a little better for that!
If I had to sum up my message in just a few words, it would be to look out for one another, especially if someone is going through any type of treatment as it can be life-changing. And, most importantly, if you have any symptoms, please get yourself checked."
