Story
Thank you for visiting my page. I am cycling from my house in Buckinghamshire to the beach in Barcelona with with my adventure partner Alex on our 20 yr old tandem that we were generously gifted at our wedding. We will be cycling on average 140km a day for 12 days with a group of mainly medical professionals to help Dom and Jasper Furniss raise money for Sarcoma UK. Jasper was recently diagnosed with a very rare form of sarcoma. You can read about their story here https://www.justgiving.com/page/jasper-furniss-o2b
The amazing Jenny Furniss (Jasper’s Mum) will be supporting us all the way in the team car with lunches and supplies in case of mechanicals.
This is going to be a REAL challenge for me peddling most of the day, everyday, for 12 days! So if you are wanting blood ,sweat and tears for your money I am sure there will at least be the latter two and plenty of hard graft! The tandem is really quite heavy compared to modern carbon bikes, but the heavier steel frame is supposed to be more springy and absorb more bumps. -Not sure my butt is in agreement! I have a suspension seat post to address this, as the stoker does not always spot potholes or bumps coming up, but this all adds to the weight.( Not to mention the weight of my butt itself! ) However, luckily I have my own extra brake which is much needed once we get momentum going down hill.
In May, at the beginning of our training I could barely sit on the tandem for an hour it was so uncomfortable and it was really quite hard work keeping up with Alex’s speed of peddling. You both have to pedal at the same rate/cadence on a tandem. So I get a bit bored of the jolly " She's Not peddling!" comments from passers-by, especially after all my training this bike is now more of a rear wheel drive and indeed Alex often asks me to ease off on the peddling! So it is total team work, me and Alex on the bike, there's no losing your partner when you've had enough! Then of course there's the rest of the team, The Furniss's, other six riders and all you kind sponsors. Every penny raised will go to Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments.
I have never done anything like this before and would be most grateful if you could help me raise money for Sarcoma UK by donating to my Justgiving page. Every little helps and any amount would be most gratefully received and help spur me on over the Pyrenees and on to Barcelona.
