Story
As many of you know, our youngest daughter Catrin was born 7.5 weeks early. She was transferred to Singleton at 2 days old due to a punctured lung and difficulty breathing. The care and experience in Singleton NICU is second to none and this was helped massively by the fact we could stay in a room just down the hall and were able to visit her 24/7. Singleton NICU are now raising money to refurbish these rooms for families, who find themselves in the same situation as we did. We were fortunate that we live relatively close so only needed the room for that one night. Many families are transferred here from much further away and these rooms provide the security of knowing they don’t have to leave their little one/s far behind at what is potentially the scariest time. Below is a bit more information about NICU and the accommodation they provide. I am running the Cardiff half marathon to raise money for this cause because without it our lives could possibly be very, very different. Any amount you could sponsor me would go to the very best use! Thank you!!!
Singleton’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provide specialist intensive care to babies born preterm, i.e. earlier than 40 weeks’ gestation or sick following birth. Preterm babies are small, vulnerable and require specialist immediate support when born. Premature babies frequently have to spend weeks or months in hospital before they are ready to go home.
We have five two-bedroom houses, which are in the hospital grounds where families can stay to be close to their premature baby(s) but unfortunately, all the houses are in need of a facelift, inside and outside. This includes decoration, furniture (bedroom, lounge, dining room), soft furnishings, bedding, white goods, curtains, kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery, toiletries, detergents, patio furniture, lighting, nursing chairs for breastfeeding Mums, plants and flooring.
