Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On May 24th 2024, Nigel, my husband and best friend, was diagnosed with Myeloma, a form of blood cancer.
Although Nigel has been ill for a while, this diagnosis came as a total shock to both of us. The implications of living with Myeloma are life changing.
Myeloma is daunting, there is currently no cure and it will constantly be a case of remission and relapse. Nigel is currently taking part in a clinical trial and is undergoing 4 chemotherapy cycles before hopefully being fit enough for the stem cell transplant at St James, Leeds later this year.
We pray this will give him a good chance of remission and some semblance of normal life again.
Although there is yet no cure, treatments are advancing all the time and its vital that this work continues to make this dreadful disease a thing of the past.
As a keen hiker and plodder of a runner, I am committing myself to running the 2025 London Marathon in aid of Myeloma UK. So far the support we have received has been both amazing and humbling.
If you can spare a few pounds, please throw it in the pot to support the research team at Myeloma UK in their valuable work.
How your fundraising helps
£20 - could send our GP Diagnostic tool to 15 GPs, helping them to spot myeloma sooner.
£60 - could provide an hour of free patient/family support through our Myeloma Infoline.
£125 - could help us gather evidence for a drug appraisal to ensure effective treatments, like lenalidomide, are available on the NHS.
£500 - could help our researchers understand why myeloma cells become increasingly resistant to treatments, and develop new drugs to kill resistant cells.
£1,000 - could support the development of a clinical trial to give patients early access to new drugs and therapies.
I will be logging all my training on Strava if you want to keep track. https://www.strava.com/athletes/59642587
Thank you for reading and wish me luck!
