I've always been interested in travel, living in communities, and helping others learn English. I've worked in a refugee camp and I have compassion for people settling in another country, including those who have fled Ukraine.

I heard about Upbeat Communities (in Derby) and it inspired me to help in some way. Upbeat Communities supports refugees to rebuild their lives by providing free English classes, support groups, community meals, emergency accommodation, job opportunities and more.

I received vouchers for bushcraft and flying for my 70th birthday this year and I would like to use more of these experiences to raise money for Upbeat Communities, starting with a glider flight in August/September, and bushcraft day courses, leading to a more challenging long weekend. I belong to a ladies cycling group who are actively involved in hosting families.

I plan to undertake this challenge for a year, until Dec 2023, extended following a bout of covid and fatigue last year. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. Watch this space for updates...
