Story

We are at it again! I will be walking 30 miles with Buster (well he'll be "strolling" for most of them) to help in the American Cancer Society's fight for a world without cancer.

As many of you know, we are big on charity walks over here! And when we're not walking we are usually fundraising for something! It's been quite some time since we participated in a walk and this felt like the perfect opportunity.

I personally interned for ACS many years ago and saw firsthand where fundraising dollars were spent, organizing many of the wonderful programs they offer for cancer patients. Fast forward to 2019, the beginning of our therapy dog career, Buster and I visited the cancer ward at St. Barnabas Medical Center often, as a way to honor my dad. Along our journey we connected with some true cancer warriors, Carol Ping and David Ingerman being two of those special souls, who were champions of the therapy dog work we were doing. We lost them both of them just over a year ago, but their spirit is very much with us. To Ms. Dyer, our principal, who welcomed us into school with open arms and a grateful heart. Your recovery has been so inspirational. Mrs. Behrle, one of the amazing teachers who helped us kickstart our Read to a Dog program, just finished her treatments and is on the road to recovery! And, to one of our biggest champions and cancer survivors, Lucy Mannino, this one's for you too! It's only fitting this walk be month long, as we've got a lot of ground to cover and a lot of people we are walking for! We will be dedicating certain walks to each of them.

It's really a full circle moment for us and we invite you to be a part of it! Whether you can make a donation (of any amount), share our page, or just follow our journey and cheer us on throughout the month of June, we appreciate any and all inspiration! We will be documenting our walks on Buster's Instagram @busters.borough. We look forward to seeing where each of them takes us.

This walk is the perfect culmination of our biggest passions; connecting us with the dog community, getting moving for our mental health, and giving back to a great organization, while honoring those in our lives who have been affected by cancer. Every step we take will be with intention and purpose.

Our fundraising goal is set at $2415 as we lost my dad February 4th 2015, but know his legacy lives on. This walk being one way for us to keep his strong spirit alive.

ACS has a platinum rating on GuideStar (the highest possible) so give with confidence! Please consider making a donation because every little bit helps. Thank you for your support!
