In January 2024 I was ready to restart my fitness journey and build myself back up to where I was a few years back pre-COVID. Unfortunately, this was not on the cards for me as I fell ill with a mixture of respiratory problems, leaving me hospitalised for 9 days. I was cared for across our trust in three separate areas, which as a staff member was a different experience, but the care I received was great.

Though those 9 days felt like a life-time the recovery from this was much longer than I anticipated. Multiple sleepless nights, not being able to care for my 4-year old son, and having to rely on friends and family for help. I had a total of 8-weeks off work with a 6-week phased return where I had to build myself back to being able to manage every day life. This has given me the drive to better my own health and wellbeing and want to give back. Which is why I am raising money for New Forrest ward at Torbay hospital.

My team of staff were able to continue working every day without me, and ensure that as a team, the ward and patients remained safe and supported. They checked on me regularly, sent gifts to my home, sent videos of well wishes, and some even visited whilst I was at my worst and sat with me holding my hand.

For this I will be forever grateful that I have such caring and compassionate staff working not for me, but with me, and I want to give back and hopefully raise enough money that can support our ever growing team and ward environment.
