Weldmar's 2025 Machu Picchu Overseas Challenge

Weldmar's Machu Picchu Oversea's Trek 2025 · 14 March 2025 to 24 March 2025 ·
For my wife Hannah.
In June 2023, Hannah fell ill. What was happening to her quickly became revealed as Pancreatic cancer. A cancer I hadn't really heard about before. A cancer that is all too often incurable.
The months that followed were incredibly difficult and we were so grateful for all the care and support that friends and loved ones could provide.
Something else that I hadn't really heard about before this was the Weldmar Hospice. This fantastic organisation provides specialist care for adults in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones.
All of their care is provided for free, and they need to raise £26,000 every day to continue providing all of their services. This includes care at home from Weldmar Community Nurses and Weldmar at Home, their Inpatient Unit in Dorchester, counselling and bereavement support, social workers, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and so much more.
Hannah benefitted immeasurably from all of these services.
Without them I don't want to imagine how much harder things would have been. They provided comfort, compassion, experience, humour (much needed) and warmth.
I very much want to give back to their fantastic cause.
I found out that Weldmar were organising a fundraising challenge to go to Machu Picchu. A place I'd always wanted to go to and Hannah told me to 'do it'. So, myself, Andy, Mark and Rob (three of my oldest friends and who were my Best Men when I married Hannah) have set ourselves this challenge to raise money for Weldmar.
These amazing people are joining me on a challenging trek over the Andean peaks, through Peruvian landscapes and misty forests. We will start our adventure in Cusco with an acclimatisation trek to the Inca ruins of Tambomachay. After two-days of acclimatising we will then begin the hike towards Machu Picchu along the Salkantay trail - an incredibly challenging trek at altitude for someone who grew up on the Somerset levels!
All to support Weldmar Hospicecare.
Please note that all travel costs are self funded. Every penny you donate will go to Weldmar.
I know how hard times are at the moment. I know how hard the cost of living is stretching everybody. And that is why charities are finding themselves squeezed at both ends.
Hannah benefitted from the charity of people she had never known and could never know. Big or small, your donation will help support others going through such incredibly hard days.
Thank you so much for supporting us!
