Story
In the past couple of years, we have spent about £40k just to counteract the effects of the weather on Wembworthy Church tower and some of the windows.
Devon Historic Churches Trust helped us enormously with a grant towards the repair of the windows, but now we've run out of money.
We have a list of projects such as replacing the bell frame and installing a toilet, that goes well beyond our current resources. Did you know the bells in Wembworthy Church date from the 15th Century and were made in Exeter? They need to be heard, but it's unsafe to ring them because of the bell frame. With a toilet we could hold more events in the church and welcome people who need the convenience.
Devon Historic Churches Trust is a major funder for repairing and maintaining places of Christian worship throughout Devon, and we’re happy to support them again on their Fun Day. Half the money raised goes to the Trust, the rest is kept for the Church in Wembworthy.
This year we’re holding a choice of sponsored walks and a cycle ride, all starting in Wembworthy Church, almost all of the walk through woodland and along public footpaths. Everyone is welcome to take part in one of the walks or the cycle ride, and it all starts at about 11am on Saturday. Just turn up, collect a map and head out. The walks are six miles in length and the cycle ride close to twenty.
We’re asking people either to raise some money through sponsorship or make a donation either in the church or via this JustGiving page. We'll have drinks and snacks in the Church from 11am, and between 2pm and 4pm on the day there will be more hot and cold drinks available, more substantial snacks and cakes for anyone who turns up at St Michael’s, walkers or not.
Thank you!
