Story

From being picked last to running for a global movement, join me on my biggest challenge yet.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome! I’m Chris, and on the 26th of April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise £3,000 for parkrun Global... For context, 26.2 miles is the equivalent of 8.5 consecutive parkruns (or 21 junior parkruns)

I’ll be updating this page regularly, sharing my fundraising progress and training journey.

Why parkrun? Why me?

I’ve never considered myself a natural athlete. At school, I was always picked last in PE, but I enjoyed cross-country running as it gave me a quiet chance to think and breathe. Years later, parkrun transformed that old self-doubt into a passion for movement, milestones, and community.

Since 2022, I’ve completed 54 parkruns, volunteered 7 times, and found a new social circles within my local club, the Wonkey Donkey Athletics Club, and the Wyre Forest parkrun community.

The support, motivation, and (occasional) gentle peer pressure I get has kept me running - even through cold, wet, dark months and setbacks.

How Parkrun Changed Me

I've realised that setting challenges and milestones helps me stay motivated - likely a byproduct of my passion for tabletop and video gaming.

parkrun has given me a way to gamify fitness: setting challenges like “Can I run sub-30?” or “Can I overtake the person ahead of me?” even crazy ideas like whether I could one day finish a marathon! Crazy, right?

It has also been my sanctuary after tough weeks or during big life changes, like becoming a father to my amazing twin girls. Now, my two daughters (9 months old!) often join me in their pram.

What I love most: parkrun is not a race. It’s a celebration. Run, jog, walk, or skip; you’re timed, but never judged. There are no medals, just encouragement, and everyone is welcome.

My Fundraising & Training Milestones

What better way to motivate me and my donors by gamifying my journey to the London Marathon... so I've set some milestones and goals.
